ISLAMABAD: Dr Qibla Ayyaz, chairman Council for Islamic Ideology (CII) has said he is ready to play his role for political reconciliation in the country. “Government and opposition should sign charter of politics for stability and elimination of political tension in the country. Council is ready for forging political reconciliation besides religious and sectarian harmony. Child marriage and forced conversion are not religious issues but they are social, economic and judicial issues , he said this in a statement here Tuesday. Online
Work has been started for eradication and discouragement of child marriage. This issue is running since 1929 and not from today. This issue will be resolved through public awareness rather than legislation. At present marriage age is 18 years in Sind and 16 years in Punjab. Council has started work along with ministry of religious affairs and prominent Ulema to sort out this problem, he underlined.
He went on to say the child marriage is not free from problems. The forced marriages issue to larger extent lies in Sindh where problems of marriage with conversion of religion have come to open. It is a detailed issue. The council is already reviewing all the aspects of this issue. Now the respective committee will also work.
There is no room for forced conversion in Islam , he remarked.
Kidnapping any person is illegal act, he said adding this case should be tried in the court and perpetrator should be punished. CII has played key role in fostering sectarian harmony and Pakistan image in the world in the perspective of interfaith harmony is good.
Charter of democracy is needed for eliminating political tension in the country, he stressed.
