Former Federal Minister and PTI’s leader Fawad Chaudhry said Sunday government was ‘running away’ from the idea of forming a commission to probe alleged torture on incarcerated PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.
“Why the interior minister is hesitant of investigations if Gill has not been tortured under police’s custody?” Fawad asked Sunday at a press talk.
PTI has constantly been alleging Islamabad Police and authorities of torturing former PM Imran Khan’s Chief of Staff Shahbaz Gill during his arrest, while the government has been negating such claims.
Senior PTI leader claimed that party chairman Imran Khan’s chief of staff Shahbaz Gill was “tortured in a CIA cell”.
Addressing a press conference of his own in response to one held by Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah, Chaudhry said that the torture of political prisoners cannot be condoned under any circumstances.
On Sunday, former information minister ‘challenged’ government of forming an independent, autonomous inquiry commission to probe into the matter and said that government leaders were ‘afraid of public’.
“Their leaders are afraid of facing public. Where is Maryam Nawaz these days? Imran Khan, on the other hands shatters the government by just leading a rally,” he maintained.
“These rulers take shelters inside closed rooms. They rely on police, army and other state institutions. These safeties and securities can’t save them from public’s wrath,” Fawad said.
Criticizing former ally Muttaheda Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), Chaudhry said the party had become clueless. Referring to Sunday’s NA-245 by-polls, he said MQM-P was nowhere on the political scenario.
