The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Monday unblocked TikTok, a Chinese video-sharing social networking service, in the country after getting assurance from the application’s management that all accounts involved in repeated spreading of “obscenity and immorality” would be blocked.
According to PTA’s statement, “TikTok is being unlocked after assurance from management that they will block all accounts repeatedly involved in spreading obscenity and immorality” and it added that TikTok would moderate the account in accordance with local laws.
PTA had blocked Tiktok on October 9 citing that the video-sharing platform was spreading “obscenity and immorality” in the society.
Earlier this year in July, PTA had suspended Bigo, a live streaming application owned by Bigo Technology of Singapore and online game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). However, the bans were lifted after PTA held successful talks with both companies’ representatives.
