Inspector General Frontier Corps North Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Major General Noor Wali Khan, officials of the district administration & security forces, local elders, Ulema and youth attended the grand jirga. IGFC North Major General Noor Wali Khan was welcomed by the district administration & local elders and presented the traditional cap. At the beginning of the jirga, a special prayer was offered for the martyrs of Dir district.
While addressing the Jirga, Major General Noor Wali Khan paid homage to the martyrs for their sacrifices. He said that Dir is the land of brave, hospitable people & Islamic values. Today, peace is restored because of the sacrifices of the people and the security forces.
All sections of the society including elders, dignitaries, teachers, scholars, youth, students and district administration have to play their role to maintain lasting peace and stability in the area. If we are unite, this menace can be completely eradicated. Peace is a pre-requisite for development and stability in the area. Armed individuals or organizations will not be accepted in the area under any circumstances and will not be allowed to disturb the peace of the area.
Only those abiding by the law and constitution of Pakistan are acceptable in the area. IGFC said that the capacity of the police is being enhanced, so that they ensure law and order in the area. Search operation is going on in the hilly areas of Swat and its surroundings to eliminate the presence of any terrorist.
Major General Noor Wali Khan said that the mutual cooperation of local people and security forces should continue to ensure peace in the area. It is also the duty of the people of the area to keep an eye on suspicious persons & activities and report the presence of outsiders in a timely manner.
Timely information about the presence of terrorists in the area and their facilitators can play an important role in eliminating any threat. It is clear that the name of the informer will be kept completely confidential. IGFC North Major General Noor Wali Khan said that illegal border crossing will not be allowed at any cost. Divided families on both sides must adopt a legal route to cross the border.
Efforts are being made to open the Bin Shahi crossing to alleviate the problems of the divided families. Major General Noor Wali Khan said that illegal sale and use of arms and explosives without license in the area will not be accepted under any circumstances. Demonstratively waving weapons is not acceptable in any society. It is the responsibility of the area elders to stop this trend.
He said that the local administration and law enforcement agencies are taking anti-trafficking measures to prevent illegal buying and selling. IGFC North said that madrasas and schools need improvement in terms of higher education and adequate staffing. Activities should be monitored in Madrasahs & schools and sports activities should be promoted more. Major General Noor Wali Khan said that Dir is a beautiful area. There is a lot of scope for tourism here.
The administration should take significant and lasting steps to promote tourism in Lower and Upper Dir. He said that the victims of the recent floods should appreciate the assistance provided by the local people and the administration.
In the Grand Jirga, elders, scholars and youth gave various suggestions regarding development, peace and stability in the region. And reiterated that they will protect peace along side the district administration and security forces.
