KARACHI: Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) continues to support Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), one of the largest “Training and Research Hospital” in Pakistan. TİKA updated the ultrasound devices (Color Doppler) which are used in the Radiology Department of the Hospital, providing free health services. The handing-over ceremony was attended by HE Dr. Cemal Sangu, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Karachi, Halil İbrahim Başaran, TİKA Karachi Coordinator, Mushtaq Chhapra, Chairman of Patients’ Aid Foundation, Shabbir Diwan, Board Member of Patients’ Aid Foundation, Prof. Dr. Tariq Mahmood, Board Member and Faculty of Radiology at JPMC, doctors and lecturers. During the handing over ceremony, which was held after visiting the projects carried out by TİKA in the Hospital, Dr. Cemal Sangu, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Karachi, stated that the transformation of JPMC since the early 1990s is remarkable and expressed his gratitute for TİKA’s contribution to this transformation in the hospital. Prof. Dr. Tariq Mahmood, Board member and faculty of Radiology Department, stated that TİKA projects carried out in the hospital has a great social impact and provides important contributions especially for families with insufficient financial situation. Dr. Mahmood thanked TİKA and Türkiye for its uninterrupted support and stated that TİKA projects constitute an important model in the field of health.
Expressing his pleasure to see the contribution of TİKA projects to the transformation of the Hospital, Halil İbrahim Başaran, Head of TİKA Karachi stated that TİKA will continue to contribute to JPMC, which has a very significant place in Pakistan’s health services.
TİKA, carried out dozens of important health projects in Pakistan since 2010, supplied 5 ultrasound devices to JPMC in 2019, and established the first modern operation theatre in the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of JPMC in 2021. With the ultrasound devices provided to the radiology department, 351,000 patients were scanned free of charge between 2019 and 2024, while 1,850 operations were performed free of charge in the operation theatre.
TİKA, which also provided to the newborn department a newborn hearing screening device which has been detecting the hearing problems at early ages, continues to contribute to the development of the friendly and brotherly country Pakistan in the field of health with its high added value projects.
