Higher education minister announces science exhibitions, emphasizes youth empowerment

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi, announced plans to extend the successful science exhibition held at the JMC level to colleges and universities across the province.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-day inter-class sports gala at City Girls College Gulbahar, Peshawar, Afridi highlighted that investing in students and youth is a top priority for the provincial government. “We must provide more opportunities for the younger generation, as they are the precious assets of any nation,” he said.
Accompanied by Special Secretary for Higher Education Ghulam Saeed, Director of Higher Education Fareedullah Shah, College Principal Professor Rabia Sikandar, Director of Sports Najma Naz Qazi, and a large number of staff and students, the minister praised the immense potential of the youth. He urged them to showcase their talents in various fields to bring recognition to the province and the country on the international stage.
The provincial minister appreciated the efforts of the college principal and organizers for successfully hosting the sports gala. He emphasized the importance of extracurricular activities alongside academics. “Sports activities are essential not only for physical health but also for mental growth and the promotion of discipline” he said.
Earlier, the college principal highlighted the achievements of students under the mentorship of Najma Naz Qazi and said that the college students have excelled in sports at the provincial and national levels and even represented Pakistan internationally.
She maintained that it is proud for this college that students of this college are part of the national women’s kabaddi team that would participate in the women’s Kabaddi World Cup in India.
However, in various competitions of the sports gala, in table tennis first position was won by FA/FSc second-year students, Sumaiya and Zainab, while Rashida and Warisha secured the second position. In badminton, Zahra and Saba Gul from BS Urdu defeated Maryam and Manahil to claim the winner’s trophy in the final match.
In basketball, the first position went to BS Chemistry students Asiya Bibi, Arsa Ali, Wajiha, Aram, Laiba, and Mehak, while FA/FSc second-year students Iqra, Amna, Maryam, Sehr, Malaika, and Sana took the second position.
In tug of war, BS combine students Kainat, Kulsoom, Laiba, Wissal, Hira, Malaika, Bushra, and Maryam secured the first position, while Inter combine students Hajra, Sana, Sadaf, Sumaiya, Muneeba, Malaika Ali, Asiya Bibi, and Nadia achieved the second position.
In taekwondo, Laiba Mary won the first position, followed by Uzma in second and Hira in third. The provincial minister awarded trophies, medals, and prizes to the position holders of the sports gala. On the occasion the college principal presented a traditional shawl to the provincial minister.
