IG Zulfiqar Hameed orders speedy completion of Safe City Projet

IG-KP calls for immediate action on the project in Peshawar pending for 18 years

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Zulfiqar Hameed has issued clear directives to utilize all available resources to ensure the urgent and timely completion of the Safe City Projects across the province, emphasizing their critical importance in eliminating street crimes and terrorism.
Chairing a high-level meeting at the Central Police Office, the IGP reviewed the progress of ongoing work in Peshawar, Lakki Marwat, and Bannu districts, as well as the PC-1 stage of projects in Kohat, Karak, Tank, and North Waziristan.
According to a statement, the meeting was attended by the head of the Project Implementation and Review Committee, Additional IG Headquarters Abbas Ahsan, along with DIG IT, DIG Telecommunication, Director IT, and representatives from the Home Department, NRTC, University of Engineering and Technology, the Computer Science Department of Peshawar University, and the Pakistan Army. During the meeting, detailed briefings were given by the NRTC representative and Director IT of KP Police regarding the progress of the Safe City Project in Peshawar.
The forum was informed that in the provincial capital, the site survey and identification of critical locations have been completed, while excavation work has reached 87 per cent, steel fixing and concrete pouring stand at 83pc, and 76pc of pole installations have been completed.
In Dera Ismail Khan, 100 of the survey was complete, excavation stands at 71pc, and steel fixing and concrete work at 60pc. In Bannu, post-survey work such as excavation, steel fixing, and concrete pouring was 90pc complete. Similarly, in Lakki Marwat, this phase was 89pc complete.
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed stressed the need to complete the Peshawar Safe City Project, pending for the last 18 years, on an emergency basis.
He directed that all aspects, from the installation of poles to building construction, should be completed immediately, with no further delays.
KP police chief instructed that all stakeholders take necessary and proactive steps to ensure the project’s smooth and timely completion.
Regional Police Officers from Kohat Abbas Majeed Marwat, Bannu Sajjad Khan, and Dera Ismail Khan Syed Ashfaq Anwar joined the meeting via video link and provided updates on the progress in their respective divisions.
The IGP instructed all RPOs to accelerate the pace of work and ensure that the project is completed within the approved timeline.
