IHC reserves judgment on maintainability of contempt of court plea against Murad Saeed

ISLAMABAD : Islamabad High Court (IHC) has reserved judgment on maintainability of contempt of court petition filed by a private transport company against communication minister Murad Saeed.

A single bench of IHC led by Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb took up the case for hearing Monday.
Arif Chaudhry counsel for the petitioner told that the court had ordered to fully implement National Highways Safety Ordinance-2000 but court’s orders are not being implemented. Therefore, contempt of court proceeding be initiated.

Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb remarked “ that decision was my decision. Therefore, it will be appropriate that some other bench hears this petition.

The defense counsel Arif Chaudhry told the court this is your decision therefore, contempt of court plea has to be heard by you as well. Non implementation of axle load law is causing damage to national highways.

Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb inquired is the court’s decision is still there . Has it not been challenged anywhere or suspended.

Arif Chaudhry told the court the court’s decision is there still which has not been implemented.

Secretary communication, Chairman NHA and IG Motorways have also been respondents in contempt of court plea.

The court reserved the judgment on maintainability of petition.

It is pertinent to mention here Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb had issued 14-page written decision in January 2020,. The court had ordered to fully implement highway safety ordinance and AXLE load laws.
