IHC restores govt decision to suspend additional gas supply to industries

ISLAMABAD, March 18 (Online): Islamabad High Court (IHC) while restoring the government decision on suspension of supply of additional gas to the industries has terminated the stay order of 61 industries.

The industries had challenged the government decision to suspend the supply of additional gas to KEPKO power plants.

The court remarked this court cannot take responsibility of economic loss of even single day. How much circular debt increased due to 4 days stay order. The court ordered to present details today.

The court remarked if circular debt increased due to stay order then the fine will be shifted to those who have sought the stay order. The courts should not make unnecessary interference in the economic matters of the state. This matter is linked to national economy and circular debt.

Government has got powers to implement cabinet committee for energy January 28 decision. Cabinet committee for energy had taken decision to suspend the supply of additional gas to industries on January 28. More stay order will cause loss to the national exchequer.

The counsel for the textile mills requested the court the court should not revoke stay order till today.

The secretary petroleum appeared in the court in person to assist the court.

The secretary petroleum told the court decision was taken to supply gas to KEPKO power plants according to their requirements as per policy of 2005.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till today.
