The Islamabad High Court (IHC) would pronounce its verdict in the constitutional petition (WP-3139/ 2015) of Aafia Movement leader Dr Fowzia Siddiqui filed in 2015, seeking release and wellbeing of her sister Dr Aafia.
On December 3, 2025, the last hearing of this case was held by a four-member larger bench headed by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir and comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Muhammad Azam Khan and Justice Inam Amin Minhas, seeking a complete briefing from the government. During this hearing issuing contempt notices in case of non- implantation of the court orders was also mentioned.
The court had instructed the Additional Attorney General to submit the briefing, adding that the government should have to do something.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir had told the additional attorney general that the government had neither submitted amicus brief not implemented the court orders and for this the contempt of court notices had already been issued.
The next date of hearing was fixed on January 20, 2026; however, no roster of this case was issued even after passing on January 26. Later, on February 09, 2026, the roster about announcing the verdict of this case was uploaded on the website of the IHC.
However, Aafia Movement Pakistan spokesman Muhammad Ayub has said that presently Dr Fowzia Siddiqui is in Malaysia to attend an international conference on epilepsy. He said Dr Aafia Siddiqui is an American jail without medical treatment despite her falling health.
He asked in the backdrop of taking no action by the government, could it be thought that the proceedings of this case have been completed.
He said 25 Crore people of Pakistan wait for doling out justice by the court, and serious action by the government.
He said that now the services of Dr Fowzia Siddiqui in the field of medicine and her struggle for the cause of Dr Aafia Siddiqui are being recognised worldwide now.
