ILF demands election date for KP

Muazzam Butt announces to convene an APC on “delaying tactics” of ECP in holding polls in KP
The deputy organizer of Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) and advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan Muhammad Muazzam Butt on Thursday expressed deep concerned over the silence of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa caretaker government and Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in announcing the date for the elections.
Taking note of alleged delaying tactics of the provincial government in holding general elections in the province, ILF deputy organizer announced an All Party Conference (APC) on the issue of holding elections as per the law in the province.
He made the announcement while addressing a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club (PPC).
On this occasion, other office bearers of the ILF were also present.
Muhammad Muazzam Butt berated the coalition government leadership and accused them of fleeing from elections as they could not face the masses.
He said that PDM was fleeing from elections as they could not face the overwhelming support of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
He said that ECP should immediately announce the date for polls as President Arif Alvi had clearly issued instructions in this regard.
It is mandatory for the stability of the country to hold elections of National and Provincial Assembly in 90 days, he added and said that all unlawful activities and political witch hunting should be stopped.
Deputy organizer urged that everyone should abide by the law and discharge its functions and duties under the constitution.
Muazzam Butt also sought apex court interventions against the incumbent government and ECP over its failure to announce dates for elections in the province.
The courts should ensure implementation of law pertaining to elections after the assembly dissolution in letter and spirit, he added.
