Illegal appointments weaken institutions, pave way for corruption: IHC

ISLAMABAD : Islamabad High Court (IHC) has declared illegal the appointments of the employees in Sports Board who were recruited by Ministry of inter-provincial coordination.

IHC bench led by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah issued the detailed judgment Saturday.

The court remarked ministry of interprovincial coordination is not entitled to make appointments or recruitments in sports board.

The court directed the sports board to lay off 10 employees of grade-1 to 19 appointed by the ministry.

The court observed the employees were first recruited by the ministry and were later appointed in sports board. The initial recruitment of the employees was made either on merit or otherwise. This needs investigation.

What will the legal position of these employees after they are laid off, this should be decided by the federal government. The norms of merit cannot be compromised. The culture of appointments of favorites will have to be abolished.

The court remarked the illegal appointments weaken the institutions and pave the way for corruption. The illegal appointments are sheer violation of the fundamental rights of the people;

The sports board job is to provide Pakistani youths opportunity to show their talent at international level, the court remarked.
