ISLAMABAD
Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Sunday rejected Punjab Assembly’s Saturday’s proceedings to elect PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz Sharif as Chief Minister of the province. In a tweet on Sunday, the former premier said incidents taking place at Punjab Assembly on Saturday were contrary to democratic practices and constitutional articles.
“Whatever happened in Punjab Assembly [on Saturday] was in complete contradiction with constitutional articles and democratic norms, and completely condemnable,” former premier wrote in his tweet.
“There was no one to preside over the proceedings to carry out voting for the election, which is a complete violation of [democratic] norms,” Imran Khan further wrote.
“We solely reject this electoral drama, that took place under the supervision of mafia,” former PM further wrote.
On Saturday, PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz was elected the new chief minister of Punjab amid a ruckus in the Punjab Assembly.
