Hyderabad: In a significant blow to visitors Bangladesh ahead of the one-off Test against India, opener ImrulKayes was ruled out of the game at Hyderabad due to thigh injury.
Imrul suffered the injury while fielding in the two-day tour match against India A at the Gymkhana ground. The southpaw didn’t bat in the second innings of the warm-up game that ended in a draw. Imrul’s absence opens the door for SoumyaSarkar, who is likely to open alongside TamimIqbal.
According to Hindustan Times, BCB media manager Rabeed Imam said it was the same injury that had ruled Kayes out of the second Test against New Zealand in Christchurch last month.
Surprisingly, Bangladesh have called in middle-order batsman MosaddekHossain, who played the ODIs and T20s in New Zealand but was not picked for the Tests.
This will be the first time Bangladesh will play a Test in India. India will then play four Tests against Australia starting at the end of this month.
