China has pushed back against US President Donald Trump’s threat of an “economic warfare” campaign against Iran, stating that more sanctions will not solve the outstanding issues, Al Jazeera reports.
“Imposing sanctions and pressuring do not help to solve the issue,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian tells reporters in Beijing.
“China calls on relevant parties to take responsible measures and solve the issues through diplomatic and political means.” Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty says there is “daily coordination between Egypt and Qatar… to reduce escalation and enhance diplomacy in the region”, Al Jazeera reports.
In a press conference with his Qatari counterpart, he has emphasised the need to adhere to international law in the field of maritime navigation.
He has also said Egypt “condemns and denounces” the Iranian attacks on Qatar and the Gulf states, which are a blatant violation of the sovereignty of states.
“The consequences of this war were grave, not only on the Gulf region but elsewhere in the world,” Sheikh Mohammed has told reporters at a press conference following high-level discussions in El Alamein, Egypt.
He further says that the security of Qatar and the sisterly Gulf states is an integral part of Egyptian national security and Arab national security. Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has said traffic in the Strait of Hormuz must go back to what it was prior to the US-Israeli war on Iran, with no party to the conflict “blackmailing” the other, Al Jazeera reports.
“We need the situation to go back to what it used to be before,” he says. “We condemn any threats in this regard in any obstacles.”
