Increase in street crimes worries Peshawarites

PESHAWAR: A rise in street crimes has highly worried the dwellers of Peshawar who nowadays prefer to remain at homes in a bid to avoid being robbed at gunpoint. A general survey on Monday revealed that from the start of evening hours, people in Peshawar avoid going out of their homes in fear of being robbed by street criminals. Though the police have enhanced their patrolling and snap checking, street crimes were still taking place in various localities of the provincial metropolis. According to the statistics of crimes that took place in the month of October in Peshawar, three incidents of kidnapping for ransom, four incidents of abduction, 94 incidents of dacoities, 17 incidents of car lifting, 2 incidents of car snatching, 20 incidents of motorcycle theft, six incidents of motorcycle snatching, 56 incidents of inflicting injuries, 71 incidents of attempted murders and 55 incidents of murders were reported from the district. Due to the constant increase in crimes, especially the street crimes, people seemed much worried about the situation and preferred to stay at home. Police have geared up their efforts to cope with the increasing number of crimes however so far no significant result has been achieved.
