Security measures and snap-checking have been further intensified across the district on the instructions of senior police officials, amid ongoing operations against illegal arms and criminal elements.
In a significant breakthrough, police arrested an alleged inter-provincial arms smuggler during an operation conducted under the supervision of SP City Division Shahid Adnan and DSP Yakhtoot Circle Saeed-ur-Rehman. The action was carried out by SHO Tariq Jamal and his team after an exchange of fire.
Police said the arrested suspect, Rohullah son of Saifullah, a resident of Gulbela in Charsadda district, was allegedly involved in an inter-provincial arms and ammunition smuggling network and was attempting to transport weapons to other parts of the country in a vehicle.
During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a large cache of weapons, including Kalashnikovs, M4 and M16 rifles, .308 rifles, pistols, repeaters, magazines, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. The vehicle used for smuggling was also seized.
Police have registered a case and launched further investigation to trace other members of the network. Officials said efforts were underway to dismantle the entire smuggling group.
