Investment in capacity building of local governments in South Punjab

Multan: “We are thinking of establishing a local government academy in South Punjab on the lines of the existing Local Government Academy in Lalamusa”. This was said by Mr. Amir Aqiq Khan, Secretary Local Government for South Punjab in a Session that he chaired on importance of investing in capacity building of 3rd Tier of Government (Local Governments) at Multan.

The session focused on highlighting the importance of investing in capacity building and technical assistance to Local Governments. The session showcased Sub-National Governance (SNG) Programme’s work in Pakistan, with specific focus on South Punjab.

SNG’s South Cluster Team presentation focused on Citizen Budgeting, Capacity Building of LGs for Preparation of Budget; Procurement Planning and Findings of Needs Assessment Report on Enhancement of Own Source Revenue (OSR) in Rahim Yar Khan.

The participants were also briefed on End-to-End Service Delivery Pilots in Rahim Yar Khan & Kasur and the work undertaken by SNG with LG Training Academy, Lalamusa.

The Session was attended by Senior leadership of Development Partners that included H. E. Suh Sangpyo, Korean Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Michael Nehrbass, Acting ahead of USAID, Mr. Jeremy Milson, UODC, Ms. Rithi from WFP, Ms. Stella from UNRC, Secertary Agriculture South Punjab, Deputy Commissioner Multan & Officials from Local Government of District Council Multan & Jalalpur.

Mr. Amir Aqiq Khan said that we have very good partnership with Sub-National Governance Programme and they are supporting us with technical assistance in capacity building LG officials in their pilot districts.
