The students of Iqra National University have joined the volunteer force of city traffic police, said a handout.
In this connection, a function held at Iqra National University Peshawar here on Thursday.
Chief Traffic Officer Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat, Vice Chancellor Dr Shahjahan, SP Headquarters Asif Bahadur, DSP Anila Naz, DSP Shazia Shahid and other traffic officials attended the event.
Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat welcomed the participation of students of Iqra National University in the force. He said that it would further strengthen the force and make more people aware about traffic rules in the provincial capital.
Chief Traffic Officer also distributed city traffic police Peshawar shirts among the students who joined the traffic volunteer force during the ceremony.
Abbas Majeed said that it was essential to create awareness among the citizens about the traffic rules as most of the people were unaware of the traffic rules and only by giving awareness to them traffic problems and accidents could be prevented.
The formation of volunteer force comprising of male and female students was aimed at informing the citizens about traffic rules, he added.
He said that the members of the volunteer force would make the citizens aware about other traffic rules including lane line discipline, zebra crossing, seat belt, helmet and one wheeling throughout the city.
The members of the volunteer force will also inform the traders about the elimination of encroachments in the city markets so that there is no problem of traffic jamming in the city.
Later, shields were distributed among Iqra National University and traffic police officials and Chief Traffic Officer Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat presented souvenirs to Iqra National University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shah Jahan.
At the end of the ceremony, driving license learners were issued to the staff and students of Iqra National University through DL Van.
