Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that although Tehran has reached an understanding with Oman over arrangements for the passage of vessels through Hormuz, the waterway will not reopen until the United States fulfills its commitments, Tasnim News Agency reported. Gharibabadi said the agreement with Oman had established arrangements for maritime passage through the strategic waterway, but stressed that the understanding would not automatically move into the implementation phase.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has reached an understanding with Oman regarding arrangements for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, but this understanding will not automatically enter the implementation phase,” Gharibabadi said.
The deputy foreign minister said that Iran is in no hurry to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and would continue its defensive measures and efforts to counter threats.
