Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Metropolitan District Member Nasira Ibadat has condemned the arrest of Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and members of his family, terming it a violation of human rights and a direct affront to Pashtun traditions and democratic values. Nasira Ibadat said, “Protest is a fundamental democratic right of every citizen, especially political workers. The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees the right to peaceful expression of opinions and demands. If even elected politicians are denied their constitutional and democratic rights, what hope remains for the common citizen?”
She demanded the immediate release of Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan and his associates, urging the state to abandon oppressive tactics that threaten to derail democracy and move the country toward authoritarianism.
“Upholding democracy, the Constitution, and human dignity is our collective responsibility,” she emphasized.
Responding to a question, Nasira Ibadat expressed deep concern over the treatment of Senator Mushtaq, describing him as an honest and principled leader. “He must not be left alone in these trying times,” she said.
Quoting JI leader Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, she noted that no movement can be led by a single person alone. “Right now, it feels as though the entire city is locked in a cage, and Senator Mushtaq Ahmed Khan is in grave difficulty,” she concluded.
