JUI-F leads in KP Local Government polls

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) emerged as the single largest party in the hotly-contested Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Local Government elections.
The 64 tehsil council unofficial results stated that JUI-F won on 18 tehsil chairman seats followed by Pakistan Tehreek –i-Insaf (PTI) who secured 14, Awami National Party (ANP) has secured nine.
Independent candidates have also bagged 19 slots for the chairmanships in the LG polls.
Unofficial results confirm that the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Jamat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan People Party (PPP) have won two seats each in the elections held on 19 December in 17 districts of the province.
In Takhtbhai tehsil JUI-F candidate Muhammad Saeed won by securing 45,382 votes, PTI Khawar Khan Mohmand 27,332 votes JI Mazullah Khan bagged 17,568 votes.
In Bannu, JUI-F candidate Irfan Durrani has extended a lead over a PTI candidate for the mayor election.
Irfanullah has so far received 37,458 votes while the PTI candidate, Iqbal Khan Jadoon, has bagged 24000 votes.
Mardan city mayor election won by ANP Himayatullah Mayor after defeating PTI candidate, said unofficial results. While three tehsils of Mardan won by JUI-F. Another tehsil of the district Mardan namely Ghari-Kapoora won by ANP.
The Nowshera tehsils results show that PTI’s Ishaq Khattak, son of former CM-KP, Pervez Khattak in leading position by securing 49,084 votes, while JUI-F candidate Hakim Ali bagged 40,972 votes. Tehsil Jhangira, a tehsil of district Nowshera PTI candidate Kamran Raziq Khan in leading position, said unofficial results.
PIT also failed to secure seats in Kohat and Tangi tehsil and experienced unprecedented defeat. In Kohat JUI-F candidate Sher Zaman clinched the city mayor seat.
PTI performed well in district Bunner where it managed to win four out of six tehsils seats.
Moreover, JUI-F also succeeded in district Charssadda, a hub of ANP in terms of vote bank, and showed its lead in all three tehsils of the district.
An independent candidate Salar Fayaz Khan won tehsil Tangi chairman seat.
