Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazal (JUI-F)’s Zubair Ali took oath as the mayor of Peshawar on Tuesday.
Apart from Zubair Ali, the six tehsil chairmen of the provincial capital including Shah Alam, Mathera, Bhadaber, Hussankhel, and Chamkani the provincial capital also took their oaths.
The swearing in ceremony was held at Commissioner House Peshawar and Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Shafiullah Khan administered oath to the newly elected local body representatives.
After taking up the most coveted post of city metropolitan mayor, Zubair Ali spoke about their future plans and highlighted the numerous issues being faced by the people of Peshawar.
He said that a comprehensive strategy would be chalked out to cope with the dengue as in the past a number of death casualties were reported from mosquito borne diseases.
“We will try our level best to work jointly with the provincial government, local body representatives, and all other stockholders to make Peshawar a peaceful city,” he added.
Mr Zubair said that unfortunately during the last few months some tragic incidents happened that made the law and order situation in the provincial capital more vulnerable.
He also condemned the suicide bomb blast incident in a mosque at Kocha-e-Risaldar and said that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure security of all religious places.
Newly elected mayor Peshawar also shed light over the issue of clean drinking water in Peshawar, adding that drinking water quality was deteriorating day by day in Peshawar due to aging water pipes.
“Being a mayor of Peshawar city I would try my level best to replace old pipes and replace them with new ones so people could access clean drinking water,” he shared.
Mayor Peshawar demanded of the provincial government to declare Nishterabad hospital as a drug rehabilitation center where drug addicted persons can get free of cost treatment.
According to the provincial election commission spokesperson, districts returning officers of 17 districts have been directed to organize the oath-taking ceremony of candidates who had got elected in the local government elections in KP.
In a notification, the Election Commission asked the returning officers to arrange for the swearing-in ceremony of the elected representatives of the first phase of local government elections. Official sources said the swearing-in of the chairmen, members, tehsil and city chairmen, and mayors of village and neighborhood councils held in almost all 17 districts of the province.
