A 12-year-old boy allegedly kidnapped from Hassan Town was recovered safely from a checkpoint in Islamabad, while three suspects, including his cousin, were arrested, police said on Thursday.
According to police, Abdullah, son of Muhammad Ibrahim, went missing from his home in Hassan Town on Aug 25. The area falls within the jurisdiction of Sikandarabad police station.
A few hours after his disappearance, the boy’s father allegedly received a message demanding Rs100 million as ransom for his release. Abbottabad Police subsequently launched a search operation and placed blockades on internal and external routes.
Meanwhile, Islamabad Police stopped a car (CF-513) at the Tarnol checkpoint for checking. During the inspection, Abdullah was found sitting in the back seat. Police said the boy told them that he had been kidnapped from Abbottabad.
Two men travelling in the vehicle were arrested and identified as Niaz Khan, son of Umar Farooq, a resident of Kohistan, and Ali Ahmed, son of Shabbir Hussain, a resident of Rawalpindi.
During interrogation, the suspects allegedly disclosed the involvement of another person, identified as Owais, who was subsequently arrested. Police said Owais was the boy’s cousin.
The child and the suspects were later transferred to Abbottabad. After completion of legal formalities, Abdullah was handed over to his father.
Addressing a press conference, Abbottabad Police said the force had acted promptly after receiving information about the kidnapping, leading to the safe recovery of the child and arrest of the alleged kidnappers.
