The Department of Physics, Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak is celebrating the World Quantum Day today and next Monday to highlight the significance and recent developments in Quantum Physics throughout the world.
According to a press release of the University, different activities are scheduled till next Monday in the department of Physics that include poster presentation, an awareness walk and a lecture titled as “Quantum Physics, Near Future Scenario of Technological Magics” which will be delivered by Dr Abdul Hakim Shah, the Head of the Physics Department.
Speaking on this occasion, Dr Shah informed that World Quantum Day is being celebrated on 14th April each year, a reference to 4.14, the rounded first digits of Planck’s constant: 4.135667696×10−15 eV.s = 0,000 000 000 000 004 135667696 electron volt second, a product of energy and time which is the fundamental constant governing quantum physics.
Answering questions like why is Planck’s constant is so important, he told that the World Quantum Day activities in the Department will address how does Plank’s constant will affect human lives and our future inventions in this regard.
Dr Shah highlighted that the World Quantum Day aims at engaging the general public in understanding and discussion of Quantum Science and Technology and how it helps us to know about nature at its most fundamental level. It also provides answers as how to develop technologies that are essential for our present-day life and how it can lead to future scientific and technological revolutions as well as its impact on our society.
He further explained that the quantum physics is at the origin of transformational technological developments that helped in shaping the present day society, such as the transistor, the laser, medical imaging etc. He went on saying that over the last decades, quantum science expanded beyond physics, and has been transforming our understanding about Information and opening a prospect for new and revolutionary information technologies, such as quantum computers and a quantum internet.
Dr. Shah said that World Quantum Day is an initiative from quantum scientists around the World, started on 14th April 2021 as countdown towards the first global celebration on 14th April 2022. He said that it is a decentralized and bottom-up initiative, inviting all scientists, engineers, educators, communicators, entrepreneurs, technologists, historians, philosophers, artists, producers, etc., and their organizations, to develop their own activities, such as outreach talks, exhibitions, lab tours, panel discussions, interviews, artistic creations, etc., to celebrate this important day.
The Vice Chancellor of the Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak Prof. Dr. Sardar Khan has appreciated the efforts of Physics Department for celebrating such important day which has brought revolution in the human life.
