KP: Citizens urged to take precautions during heatwave

In view of the heatwave alert, The Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has advised citizens to adopt precautionary measures, especially in peak hours.
According to a press release, the Secretary Relief, Abdul Basit, emphasized the importance of protecting oneself during the peak hours of extreme heat.
The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, especially during the peak hours.
It is crucial to use water judiciously and stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke.
Citizens are encouraged to cover their heads with a wet cloth when exposed to direct sunlight. Special attention should be given to the well-being of senior citizens and children.
He further said that Rescue 1122, PDMA, Civil Defence, District Administration, and other relevant departments have been directed to maintain a state of alertness during the heatwave to prevent any untoward incidents.
Taimur Ali, the spokesperson for the Relief Department, stated that public awareness campaigns are being conducted through mass media to promote precautionary measures and discourage unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and cover their heads and wear cool, loose-fitting clothing, take frequent showers and stay hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities, ensure their vehicles are well-maintained and carry sufficient water while traveling, farmers should make arrangements for water supply to sustain their crops, cattle, and other domestic animals.
Taimur Ali further mentioned that the helpline for Rescue 1122 and PDMA 1700 is operational and can be contacted in case of any emergencies.
