PESHAWAR
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emerged as the overall champion of the National Junior Athletics Championship, securing the championship trophy with an impressive performance. The province won a total of 14 gold, 11 silver and 7 bronze medals. Punjab finished second while the Higher Education Commission (HEC) team secured third place.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletes also excelled in other disciplines, winning titles in volleyball, badminton and squash.
The closing ceremony was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, who distributed prizes among the athletes. He was accompanied by Major General (R) Akram Sahi, Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, President of the Provincial Athletics Association Zahir-ul-Islam, Organizing Secretary Abid Afridi, AD Finance Shah Faisal, Coach Zafran Afridi along with officials of the Athletics Federation and Provincial Association.
In the boys’ athletics events held at the Peshawar Sports Complex tartan track, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won gold medals in the 100m, 800m, 1500m, High Jump, Triple Jump, Long Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw and Javelin Throw events. The province also secured several silver and bronze medals in various competitions.
Overall, KP accumulated 196 points, winning 10 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals to claim first position. Punjab finished second with 102 points, while HEC secured third place with 60 points.
In the girls’ category, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured 4 gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals, finishing second with 138 points. KP athletes won gold medals in the 400m, Long Jump, Discus Throw and 4x100m Relay events while also earning podium finishes in several other competitions. Punjab topped the standings with 146 points, while HEC finished third with 50 points.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa athletics team was managed by Abid Afridi while Zafran Afridi served as coach. Under their guidance, the athletes delivered outstanding performances and brought glory to the province.
