PESHAWAR
Provincial Minister of Elementary & Secondary Education KP Faisal Khan Tarakai distributed computer tablets, bags and other educational materials among the male and female teachers and students of state-run schools under the Multi Year Resilience Program (MYRP) funded by ECW here the other day. 1596 computer tablets will be distributed among teachers of government primary schools with the support of UNHCR.
Minister said that with the cooperation of ECW, VSO, PRDS, UN agencies and other partner organizations, the department of E&SE is trying to adopt technology driven education approaches to visibly improve the education sector with the support of key stakeholders and donor organizations. Enrollment of out-of-school children is their top priority, so that they can provide basic education to each and every child.
He shared these views while addressing a ceremony held by the Participatory Rural Development Society with the support of Education Cannot Wait, VSO, Education Department of KP and MYRP Consortium partners. District Education Officers from Peshawar, Nowshera and Charssada, Country Representative VSO Seher Afsheen, MYRP KP program head Tariq Hayat Yousafzai, PRDS CEO Arjumand Shah, Coordinator ESWG Ehsanullah, representatives from federal education department, UN agencies, INGOs and other partner organizations were also present in the ceremony.
VSO representative Seher Afsheen briefed the participants on MYRP activities and said that the basic aim of the program was to bring the donor agencies together to celebrate the key achievements of the MYRP and to create synergies for scaling up the joint efforts. MYRP is aiming to improve access to inclusive and equitable quality education for crisis-affected, refugee, and other vulnerable children and adolescents in Pakistan.
The participants were told that ECW is the UN global fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises to support quality education outcomes for refugee, internally displaced and other crisis-affected girls and boys, so no one is left behind. Addressing the occasion, Tariq Hayat told that PRDS is serving as lead implementing partner of VSO, ECW and is responsible for the overall implementation of the MYRP initiatives in three districts Peshawar, Nowshera and Charsadda of KP with technical support from PAGE and ITA.
These organizations not only supported enrollment drives in the target districts, but are also focused on missing facilities. PRDS under MYRP carried out construction and rehabilitation work on need basis in 72 government schools of the said districts. He said that assistive devices were also distributed among the 1200 needy disabled children after their medical screening, so as these children can get education without any hindrance and discrimination.
