Director General KP Food Authority Riaz Khan Mahsud has revealed that spices business is one of the hubs of adulteration across the province. While addressing a press conference at directorate general KP Food Authority the official maintained that in a two-days specific crackdown against adulteration in spices, more than eight spices production units were raided where 14000 kilograms of adulterated spices were seized while more than ten thousand kilograms of husk (bark of rice) were also recovered.
“We have devised three teams headed by director operations to inspect these eight production units.
These teams have recovered twenty sacks of broken ice to be used in adulteration.
more than four hundred litres of rancid oil, 160 kilograms of nonfood graded color and three hundred kilograms of china salt” director general maintained.
While answering a question Riaz Khan Mahsud replied that these operations were carried out on Charsadda road, Mirch mandi and in Nowshera. He concerned that to cope with adulteration, major hindrance is cottage industry as the traders have established production units inside their homes.
“we have now devised Dolphin Squad comprising of our female staff along with technical support wing to check cottage industries for adulteration. We have dismantled all the eight production units and FIR’s were launched against all in their respective police stations” Mahsud explained.
