PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has constituted a high-level working group to address electricity-related challenges facing industries, in a move aimed at improving the province’s investment climate and supporting industrial growth.
According to a statement issued here on Friday, the initiative, launched through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) in collaboration with the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO), seeks to develop practical and sustainable solutions for ensuring reliable electricity supply to industries operating in the province’s economic zones.
The statement said the working group comprised Energy and Power Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Industries and Commerce Humayun Khan, members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, representatives of industrial consumers, senior PEDO officials and the chief executive officer of KPEZDMC.
It said the participants has reviewed the electricity challenges confronting industries in the province and agreed on the need for coordinated measures to improve power availability, strengthen institutional coordination and ensure timely resolution of issues raised by industrial consumers.
The forum will also facilitate regular engagement between government departments and the industrial community to support informed decision-making and the implementation of practical solutions, it added.
Speaking at the meeting held last week, Mr Humayun Khan said a reliable electricity supply was essential for industrial productivity, investor confidence and sustainable economic growth.
He reaffirmed the provincial government’s commitment to working closely with all stakeholders to create a business-friendly environment across the province.
KPEZDMC said the establishment of the working group reflected the government’s commitment to improving industrial facilitation through coordinated institutional efforts. It added that bringing together policymakers, implementing agencies and industrial representatives on a single platform would help identify workable solutions, improve the ease of doing business and reinforce investor confidence in KP.
