PESHAWAR
In order to acknowledge the exceptional performance of eight public sector universities of the province, a grandeur ceremony was held at Governor House Peshawar on Friday.
During the ceremony, eight public universities’ Vice-Chancellors were awarded appreciation shields for bringing outstanding long-term financial and administrative reforms in their respective universities.
The universities shown exceptional performance and nominated for awards included the University of Peshawar, Khyber Medical University Peshawar, Hazara University Mansehra, Kohat University of Science and Technology, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, Women University Mardan, University of Swat and Pak-Austria University of Applied Sciences Haripur were nominated among the 32 public sector universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Addressing the ceremony, Minister for Higher Education Kamran Bangash said that the provincial government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was focused on the promotion of higher education in the province and allocated unprecedented funds for public sector universities of the province.
Kamran Bangash lauded the eight above-mentioned universities for tacking their financial expenditures and established various funds, adding that KP government has given appropriate guidelines to all universities regarding budget preparation and expenditure and almost all of them accomplice and advanced their administrations affairs.
“These eight universities made financial and administrative reforms, established various funds, and promoted the culture of research. Extraordinary measures have been taken to reduce special expenses, financial deficit and bring the budget into surplus, due to which their overall performance has been much better than other universities and therefore awards have been given in recognition of their extraordinary services,” he added.
Additional Secretary to Governor Saiful Islam said that former Governor Shah Farman personal interest in streamlining the overall management of the public sector universities bearing fruits, adding that KP government has reduced a number of financial challenges of the universities and promoted research based activities in the universities.
Minister for Higher Education KP congratulated the vice chancellors of eight universities for their excellent performance.
He also appreciated the officials of higher education and Governor Secretariat for providing best input to universities in preparation of their annual budgets.
MPA and Chairperson Standing Committee on Higher Education Madiha Nisar, Parliamentary Secretary Higher Education Department Ayesha Bano and other officials of the universities, education and finance department attended the ceremony.
