In a landmark move to empower the working class, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has set the minimum monthly wage for labourers at Rs. 40,000 as part of the 2025-26 provincial budget, said a handout.
To ensure the welfare, safety, and improved working conditions of labourers, the government has allocated a total of Rs. 210.430 million for the labour sector in the upcoming fiscal year.
These funds will support both ongoing and new development projects, with six projects planned in total three ongoing and three new initiatives.
Out of the total allocation, Rs. 181.429 million has been earmarked for ongoing projects, while Rs. 29.001 million will fund new initiatives.
The ongoing projects are establishment of the Occupational Safety & Health(OSH) Centre in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, enabling of the Directorate of Labour to enhance service delivery and establishment Maternal and Child Healthcare Unit at the Social Security Medicare Centre in Industrial Estate, Kohat Road, Peshawar.
Similarly the new projects introduced in the budget are census of brick kilns and workers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, feasibility study and detailed design for construction of labour flats and Introduction of innovative and modern initiatives to further strengthen the labour sector.
The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remains committed to the welfare of workers, provision of safe working environments, and timely execution of reform-driven projects. These steps are a reflection of the province’s resolve to uplift labour standards and enhance the quality of services in the labour sector.
