Advisor to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Dr. Saif, has stated that the KP Police were bravely combating terrorism. Over the past three days, the police have successfully thwarted multiple terrorist attacks, he said and added that in Bannu and Lakki Marwat, local residents joined the police in repelling these attacks.
Dr. Saif said the provincial government pays tribute to the courage of both the police and the people, emphasizing that unity between them is crucial in the fight against terrorism. He stressed that eliminating extremist elements is not possible without public cooperation.
Criticizing the federal government, Dr. Saif remarked that instead of engaging in political rhetoric, it should focus on supporting efforts against terrorism. “Terrorism is a national issue, not just a provincial one. Unfortunately, the federal government has remained a silent spectator and has withheld KP’s rightful funds instead of assisting in the fight against terrorism,” he said.
He further argued that depriving the province of financial resources amounts to encouraging terrorism. He pointed out that following the merger of FATA, KP’s population increased, yet the province has not been given its fair share in the NFC Award. He added that the federation owes KP Rs 700 billion under the Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP), of which only Rs 132 billion has been released so far. Similarly, arrears of Rs 2,000 billion under Net Hydel Profit remain unpaid to the province.
Dr. Saif urged the federal government to release the pending funds and actively support KP’s fight against terrorism.
