KP to observe Police Martyrs Day today

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to observe the Police Martyrs Day today (Wednesday) to pay homage to the police personnel over sacrifices in the war against terrorism.
Every year on August 4, the provincial government and KP-Police marked the day to remember the police who have been martyred combating terrorism in the province.
Speaking with media, IG-KP Moazzam Jah Ansari said that police have rendered unprecedented sacrifices in maintaining peace in the province, adding that no stone would be left unturned to curb the menace of terrorism and terrorist elements.
He said the personnel of security forces and police had sacrificed their present for the nation’s future and today’s peace was result of their selfless and timeless sacrifices.
According to press release issued by the police department shared that all preparations have been finalized to make the police martyred day an exemplary event and remember those who embraced martyrdom for peace and fighting against terrorists.
The day is marked every year on August 4, which is the death anniversary of Frontier Constabulary inspector general Safwat Ghayyur, who was martyred in Peshawar a suicide attack near his office in 2010.
The province would remember the police officials, who laid down life for the peace, in a befitting manner.
Citing the possible threat of Covid-19, the Police Martyred Day event would be held with strict SOPs at Police Line Peshawar.
A tribute would be presented to Safwat Ghayyur, who was martyred in Peshawar a suicide attack near his office in 2010 and who laid down life in fight against terrorism.
DIG Abid Ali (Shaheed) was martyred on Dec 18, 2006, when unidentified gunmen fired at his car near Peshawar.
DIG Bannu Region Abid Ali was the first senior officer who embraced martyrdom in KP police.
Additional Inspector General of Police Safwat Ghayur was a senior two-star police officer serving in the KP as commandant of the Frontier Constabulary.
He was a respected police officer, and a leader in the country’s fight against terrorism, he was martyred in a suicide attack by the Pakistani Taliban.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Malik Muhammad Saad Khan Shaheed, was one-star rank senior police officer, engineer, and former Chief Capital City Police Officer of Peshawar.
He was in charge of security in the provincial capital of Peshawar.
According to details, terrorism in the province claimed the 132 police lives in Swat,451 policemen martyred in Peshawar, 75 in Charssadda, 36 in Nowsehra, 110 policed embraced martyrdom in district Mardan, 81 in Kohat, 48 in Swabi, 18 in Karrak, 13 Abbotabad, 10 in Harripur, 35 in Mansehra, eight in Battagram, four in Kohistan, five in Torghar, 158 in Bunnu, 44 Lakkimarwat, 170 in D.I Khan, 31 in Tank,27 in Shangla, 27 in Buner, 43 in Lower Dir, 32 in Upper Dir, and 11 in Chitral.
It further shared that terrorism in KP also claimed the life of one AIG, two DIG, five SPs, 20 DSPs, 22 Sub-Inspectors, 124 ASIs, 135 head-constables, and around 1099 Constables embraced Shahadat in war against terrorism in KP.
