KP to set-up first-of-its-kind forensic lab, says Dr Riaz

PESHAWAR: Advisor to the Caretaker Chief Minister on Health, Population Welfare and Labor Dr Riaz Anwar has said that the first big forensic lab of the province is being built in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at a cost of Rs10 billion. In his video message released from his office, the Health Advisor said that despite the economic hardship of the province, the establishment of this lab is inevitable. He said that the caretaker cabinet had approved the establishment of this laboratory last week. Explaining the details of the forensic laboratory, Dr. Riaz Anwar said that foreign experts will work in this lab, whose accommodation will also be arranged in the lab, whose security will be the responsibility of the KP government. About the facilities available in the forensic laboratory, the health advisor said that both medical and non-medical analyses will be done in the lab. Medical tests include post-mortem, toxicology analysis and DNA testing for identification. He further said that the non-medical tests would include the analysis of firearms and fingerprints. This will help in the investigation of crimes and the identification of criminals. Such labs have already been established in Punjab and Sindh. DLP Report
