PESHAWAR
Engineer Amir Nadeem Durrani, the Caretaker Minister for Local Government and Public Health Engineering, paid a visit to the Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) Head Office. Secretary Local Government, Muhammad Daud Khan, and other officials accompanied him.
During the visit, Dr. Hasan Nasir, CEO WSSP, provided a detailed briefing to the delegation on WSSP’s operational, financial, and administrative matters, as well as its achievements and current challenges.
In attendance were GM Planning & HR Syed Zameer-ul-Hasan, Chief Financial Officer Hyder Ali, GM Operations Syed Tarab Shah, and GM Projects Dr. Mahboob Alam.
The Caretaker Minister was informed that technology has been harnessed to enhance the delivery of civic services and improve their quality.
Multiple measures have been taken to reduce expenses, with approximately 50 tube wells being transferred to an automated system. Further plans are underway to install systems in more tube wells.
To address sanitation issues, a sanitary landfill cell has been constructed at the dumping site, which is based on scientific principles.
A public awareness campaign is being conducted, and a community outreach wing have been established to foster relationships between traders, educators, students, elected representatives, and the community.
In various areas, a house-to-house waste collection initiative has been launched. Efforts are being made to provide clean drinking water to consumers, control leakages, and improve billing processes. To ensure employee attendance, a biometric system has been introduced, and cutting-edge technology is being used in all sectors.
The SCADA system, changes in electricity meters, installation of tracking systems in vehicles, and other initiatives have resulted in significant reductions in administrative and operational costs. The caretaker minister and secretary LG commended WSSP’s performance and asked for further recommendations for improvement.
They assured that all possible cooperation would be extended to WSSP to address issues and challenges effectively, with a commitment to providing quality services to the citizens.
