Listing of illegal immigrants start in Landi Kotal

Data collection process of illegal immigrants, including Afghan nationals began in Landi Kotal, subdivision of district Khyber.
The official of Landi Kotal police station informed that they received directions from their highup asked them to collect data of Afghan citizens illegitimately residing in various villages in the area.
Performa, sent by the concerned department distributed among the police officials to collect residential, job and other related information within the limits of Landi Kotal police station.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, Khyber, Abdunasir while quoting Afghan Commissionerate, Peshawar, said that 23600 Afghan nationals legally reside in Khyber.
Among those he added, 5600 Afghanis carried computerized Proof of Registration (POR) while the rest of 18000 Afghan citizens are Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders. He went on that the Afghan Commissionarate lacked data of illicit Afghanis residing in the district.
As per United Nation latest figure, around 1.3 million Afghans are registered refugees in Pakistan and 880,000 more have legal status to remain, however the government said that a further 1.7 million Afghans were in Pakistan illegally.
Meanwhile, approximately 210 Afghan families willingly repatriated to their motherland in the last six days, border security official Torkham said.
It is to be mentioned here that a high-level meeting of the National Security Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq held in Islamabad last day decided under the National Action Plan to repatriate all illegal foreign residents and the government had set November 1 as the deadline for immigrants to depart their respective countries.
