A sports hero awards ceremony was held in Jirga hall, Landi Kotal on Thursday.
The activity was organized under the auspice of Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP) and besides Director General Sports KP Khalid Mehmood as chief guest Additional Deputy Commissioner(relief)Nauman Ali Shah, Assistant Commissioner,Landi Kotal Irshad Mohmand,Tehsil Chairman Haji Shah Khalid,District Sports Officer Kashif Farhan,tribal elders, sports players were among the participants of the gathering.
Addressing on the occasion DG Sports Khalid Mehmood said that thoroughly highlighted the importance of the sports and said sports was the best apparatus to keep away youths of narcotics and other anti-social activities in addition with it kept one physically and mentally well.
The senior players and elders are torch bearers of the youth community therefore the younger should get guidance of them, he said, adding all efforts would be made to provide basic sports facilities to the players of Khyber.
Keeping in view the unfavorable environment, he urged the senior sports heros to utilize their due role in the tribal society and engage the youth community in positive activities and guide them to the right path.
He pledged to supply wheelchairs to special persons so that they could participate in sports events specially organized for them.
Earlier, Tehsil Chairman Haji Shah Khalid, Chairman Khyber Sports Committee Mirajuddin, Malik Abdurrazaq and merged districts disabled sports association head Haji Gul appraised the DG sports KP of the problems being faced by the players of Khyber. At the end trophies and shields were given away to the heroes of various games who had earned a good name for his country and province.
