Provincial minister for local government Arshad Ayub Khan on Tuesday instructed Deputy Commissioner Mardan to take immediate action against illegal housing societies and land use within the district.
A meeting to address the growing issue of illegal housing societies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held, chaired by Arshad Ayub Khan. The session was attended by Secretary Local Government Dr. Ambar Ali Khan, while the commissioners from Peshawar, Hazara, Kohat, Malakand, and Mardan divisions participated virtually and provided valuable input on how to combat these illegal developments.
The meeting highlighted the significant challenges posed by illegal housing schemes, including the loss of valuable agricultural land, haphazard urban planning, and jurisdictional complications.
Minister Arshad Ayub Khan emphasized that “digitalization is the only solution” to effectively control and monitor such illegal societies. He revealed that extensive efforts had been underway for the past ten months to streamline the regulatory system.
The minister stressed the need for a transparent land-use plan, the enforcement of No Objection Certificates (NOCs), and proper registration procedures for housing projects.
He directed that no housing society be allowed to advertise its project unless it has secured the necessary NOC from relevant authorities. Furthermore, he emphasized that each project must include land provisions for mosques, parks, graveyards, and essential public services.
During the meeting, the minister also proposed the formation of a special task force to enhance coordination among various departments and ensure the effective enforcement of laws.
