LAHORE
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President and the party’s Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz continues to hold meetings with the office-bearers of union councils as well as party workers in the National Assembly and Punjab Assembly constituencies of Lahore to discuss proposals to give a rousing welcome to former prime minister and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif on his homecoming on October 21.
Maryam will today meet with the chairmen, councilors and workers of the party in NA-133 and NA-127 of Lahore. On the other hand, the PML-N has decided to fully support the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) proposed schedule to hold next general elections in January 2024. Quoting its sources, the channel reported that the party had decided to oppose any move to hold the elections after January or February.
They disclosed that the PML-N’s high command had directed the party leadership to insist that elections be held on time; in TV talk shows and at other events.
Moreover, sources revealed, the party leadership had been told to distance itself from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s demand for delay in elections.
It was also disclosed that Nawaz, during his address at the Greater Iqbal Park, Lahore, after his return to Pakistan on October 21, would also oppose any such idea to delay the polls.
It is worth-reminding here that the PPP had already demanded that elections be held in time.
