PESHAWAR
Mikael Amjad clinched the trophy of the Bank of Khyber Junior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Championship, which concluded at Abdul Wali Khan Sports Complex, Charsadda District on Tuesday.
Abbottabad’s Meraj in U19 girls, Muhammad Zaid of Peshawar in U17 and Shahid Ali of Swat in U15 were declared winners during the Championship carried all age groups in the Junior category. Muhammad Zaid of Peshawar won in the U17 singles while Shahid Ali of Swat emerged victorious in the U15 category. Noor and Tanzania emerged victorious in the girls’ doubles event.
Group Head HR Head Bank of Khyber Mohammad Asif, HR Head Mohammad Jawad, DSO Charsadda Tehseenullah, Hockey Olympian Rahim Khan, iLink Mobile MD Ijaz Khan Afridi, VITE United Director Masab Farooq, Fly Tax K Umair Bangash, GS Amjad Khan of Provincial Badminton Association and Mian Sadaqat Shah, Tournament Director, Organizing Secretary and President Charsadda Badminton Association, Malik Altaf, Coaches Hayat Ullah, Nadeem Khan and other important personalities were present.
KP Badminton Association and District Administration Charsadda with the kind support of District Sports Officer Charsadda with the collaboration of The Bank of Khyber organized the Championship. The finals of the Bank of Khyber Junior Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Badminton Championship. Meraj of Abbottabad defeated Laiba, also from Hazara in 2-1 battle, the score was 21-19, 17-21, and 21-18.
Noor and Tanzania won the girls’ doubles after defeating Meraj and Sapna by 2-1, the score was 23-21, 19-21, 21-15. In the final match of U17 boys, Zaid of Peshawar defeated Fahad of Bannu 2-1, the score was 17-21, 21-19 and 25-23 in a thrilling match while Shahid Ali of Swat defeated Muhammad Ali of Charsadda in U15 category by 2-0, the score was 21-19 and 21-17.
The special guest Deputy Commissioner Charsadda Captain (Retd) Abdul Rehman distributed trophies and cash prizes among the winners. The girls players participated in U15, U17 and U19 categories. ILink Mobile, Fly T X Engine Motor Oil and White United Engineering Pvt sponsored the Championship.
Organizing Secretary and former international badminton player Mian Sadaqat Shah thanked BoK for sponsoring the Championship. He said soon a camp would be set up to further polish and groom the budding youngsters in Badminton. He said KP players exhibited excellent performances in the recently held National Badminton Championship and now it is up to the Pakistan Badminton Federation to provide them international exposure.
