Minister chairs meeting on joint efforts to rehabilitate drug addicts across KP

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan, chaired a joint meeting of Excise Department and private rehabilitation organization “The Haq Awaz” to launch a coordinated effort for the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts from across the province, a handout said.
The meeting was held at the Directorate General Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control, Hayatabad, Peshawar and was attended by Secretary Excise & Taxation and Narcotics Control Khalid Ilyas, senior departmental officials, officers of the Anti-Narcotics Wing and representatives of the rehabilitation organization.
During the session, officials discussed strategies for rehabilitating drug addicts and integrating them into society as productive citizens.
It was agreed that the Excise Department would refer addicts from Peshawar and other districts to “The Haq Awaz,” where they would receive structured medical treatment and rehabilitation services.
As part of the initial phase, the department will refer 100 individuals for free treatment and rehabilitation.
A memorandum of understanding in this regard,between the Excise Department and the organization, will be signed shortly to formalize the collaboration.
Minister Syed Fakhar Jehan described the initiative as a “significant humanitarian effort” and emphasized that serving humanity is a fundamental responsibility.
He commended the organization for its role in supporting the department’s efforts and stressed that post-rehabilitation monitoring would be implemented to protect recovered individuals from relapse and negative influences.
