Minister reviews progress on Pehur Canal Extension Project

PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Irrigation Riaz Khan on Thursday chaired a meeting to review progress on the Pehur High Level Canal Extension Project and discuss irrigation-related issues in Swabi district. The meeting was attended by MPA Abdul Karim Tordher, Irrigation Secretary Abdul Basit and other relevant officials, said a handout. Officials briefed the minister on various phases of the Pehur project, challenges encountered and the future course of action. They informed the meeting that work on Lot-II of the project was progressing at pace and was expected to be completed by May 31. Mr Khan directed authorities to further accelerate work while ensuring that quality standards were strictly maintained. He said timely completion of the project would significantly improve the irrigation system in Swabi and adjoining areas, enhance agricultural productivity and help resolve long-standing issues faced by farmers. He said that in line with the vision of Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi, the provincial government was working to modernise the irrigation system across the province to ensure sustainable development of the agriculture sector. The meeting emphasised the need for a coordinated strategy to address irrigation-related issues in Swabi and stressed continuous monitoring of ongoing projects to provide timely relief to farmers.
