Provincial minister for agriculture Major (retd) Sajjad Barakwal has emphasized the importance of ensuring the timely and transparent use of funds for development projects within the agriculture department.
He stated that strict action will be taken against project directors who fail to meet targets within the stipulated timeframes.
According to an official handout, the provincial minister called for detailed reports on the assets of completed projects and stressed that development projects must be finished on schedule to benefit the people fully.
Barakwal directed that meetings of the Joint Coordination Committees, established at the district level, should be held promptly, warning that action would be taken against districts where negligence occurs.
He further highlighted the need for improved coordination across all wings of the agriculture department.
These remarks were made during a review meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee of the agriculture department, attended by Secretary Agriculture Atta-ur-Rehman, Director Generals of all agriculture wings, representatives from agricultural universities, and other concerned officials.
The minister also instructed the establishment of a research center to enhance irrigation practices within the agricultural sector and called for immediate steps to complete ongoing projects. He emphasized that the funds allocated for the completion of schemes must be used transparently to provide relief to farmers and increase crop production.
Barakwal made it clear that no delay or negligence would be tolerated in this regard.
Additionally, he directed the organization of training programs for farmers on modern farming techniques and urged agriculture officers to focus on making barren lands cultivable.
This, he noted, would help meet the province’s agricultural needs by turning unused lands into productive ones.
Various suggestions for the development of the agricultural sector in the province were also presented during the meeting.
