Indicating a rise in the monkeypox cases in Khairpur district, the Director General of Sindh Health Department has written a letter to Aga Khan University Laboratory requesting support for tests of suspected monkeypox cases.
The DG Health apprised the lab that suspected cases of Mpox have been reported from Khairpur district.”
In view of the public health importance of timely diagnosis and response, your support is requested for laboratory testing and confirmation of suspected Mpox cases,” he stated.
According to the DG, 8 samples of as many patients were sent to the lab by April 2.
He urged the lab to facilitate priority testing of those samples in accordance with the recommended biosafety and diagnostic protocols.
“Early lab confirmation is critical for prompt case management, implementation of infection prevention and control measures, and for prevention of further transmission,” he underlined.
