PESHAWAR
International Water Management Institute in collaboration with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a one-day seminar at Crop Reporting Services (CRS) Peshawar on Friday.
The seminar “Impacts of Climate Change on Agricultural Lands” was organized to highlight the effects of environmental changes on agricultural lands and to find modern methods to increase agricultural production in the province.
Secretary of Agriculture and Livestock department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Mohammad Israr presided over the seminar.
Experts on climate change and its impacts on the agriculture sector spoke on the occasion and shed light over the possible solution to cope with environmental changes and improve yields of different crops and enhance productivity of the agrarian lands in KP.
The researchers also identified the recent flood disasters and their impact on agricultural land production and losses to farmers and landowners.
High ups of the relevant departments attended the seminar and shared their opinion on the issue.
Representatives of the International Water Management Institute, representatives of USAID and agricultural experts and researchers spoke on the occasion.
Dr Muhammad Israr lauded the efforts of the International Water Management Institute and USAID for organizing the seminar.
He said that the development of the agriculture sector in the province was the key priority of the provincial government.
Dr Israr maintained that concrete measures need of the hour to mitigate the impact of environmental degradation on the agriculture sector, adding that all relevant stakeholders would be taken on board to this end.
He said that better utilization and adequate management of the water available for irrigation purposes would be carried out to enhance the crops production.
Dr Shahid Iqbal and other experts expressed their views on the topic of environmental changes and discussed the agro-ecological zones.
Later, the head of the institute Dr Azim Ali Shah thanked Director General CRS Muhammad Kaleem and expressed his desire to carry out joint activities in future.
