PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department Monday extended the winter vacations of schools in winter zone areas (Upper regions) of the province till Feb 28 due to unusual changes in weather conditions. According to a private news channel, the KP winter zone includes Swat, Buner, Dir, Chitral, Kohistan, Shangla Par, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, and North Waziristan. A notification issued by the secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Department stated that all public and private educational institutions will remain closed till Feb 28 and educational activities will restart on March 1. The westerly waves and winter rain have brought the mercury down in the winter zone forcing the authorities to extend the holidays. DNA
