Will not let local body polls take place on January 15: Khalid Maqbool
KARACHI
All factions of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) on Thursday announced they will be joining hands to reunite the party ahead of local government polls in Karachi and Hyderabad, scheduled on January 15.
Paksarzamin Party (PSP) chief Mustafa Kamal – who once was elected mayor of the Pakistan’s biggest city on MQM’s ticket – announced on Thursday at a hyped press talk along with MQM-P’s leadership that his party will be merged back in the MQM-P.
“Our efforts to unify all factions of the [MQM] have borne fruit and all those who were hatching conspiracy against us will be disappointed today,” said MQM-Pakistan Convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui while addressing the press talk.
He said the reunification of MQM-P was the ‘need of the hour’ to become one voice for Karachi’s citizen’s rights.
“I welcome all of you including Mustafa Kamal bhai [brother] and Farooq Sattar bhai and their supporters,” Siddique said.
“We will not let the [local body] election take place on January 15… we are ready to fight elections if delimitations are fixed by overnight but if not then we will fight for our identity,” announced Siddiqui while referring to his allegations that attempts being made to snatch the mandate of the Mohajirs by gerrymandering.
MQM leaders Khalid Maqbool, Amir Khan, Waseem Akhtar, Anis Kaimkhani and Nasreen Jalil were present at the press briefing.
Talking about the local government polls, Siddique said that his party would contest the elections if delimitation was “fixed” by tonight. “But if it isn’t fixed, then we will fight for our rights.”
Addressing the press conference in Karachi, PSP’s Mustafa Kamal said that Karachi was not liberated from Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) only for PPP Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to take over and “think of it as his”.
“Zardari thinks Bilawal will be the prime minister. He wants to make Bilawal the premier,” he claimed, adding that there were no universities, and no jobs for the youth.
