NAB arrests four contractors

PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday arrested four contractors and supplier for Workers Welfare Board (WWB) allegedly involved in causing loss to the exchequer through substandard and short supply of equipment against supply order.
As per the official communiqué, it was stated that the NAB KP had arrested Muhammad Ashraf, owner of M/s Educational Resources Point, Qari Muhammad Iftikhar, owner of M/s Haq Nawaz Traders, M/s Oxon Academics and M/s Qari Publishers, Muhammad Ahsan Islam, owner of M/s Iqra Traders and M/s Mesh Trading Services and Niaz Muhammad, owner of M/s Books Point.
Taking cognizance of public complaints, it said the NAB KP authorised inquiry against the accused, which established allegations and finally led to the arrest of the abovementioned accused.The bureau claimed that all the accused were involved in causing loss to exchequer through substandard and short supply of equipment against supply order.
“The equipment include diaries, registers, exercise books, result cards, textbooks, course books, sport equipment, stationery, sports kits, PVC pipes, tube lights, welding equipment, micro meters, saws, fiber optics tool kits, various religious/historical books and library books at highly exorbitant rates,” the bureau said.
It said the accused with the connivance of WWB officials got contracts fraudulently.It was revealed that the whole process of awarding contracts was conducted in violations of rules that caused huge loss to the exchequer.
The bureau said that Tariq Awan, Secretary Workers Welfare Board (KP) who was the main accused in the scam, had been arrested by NAB in another case pertaining to scholarship fraud in WWB.
