Rawalpindi Veterans clinch title; PAF coach Muhammad Arshad honored

The city of wrestlers, Gujranwala, witnessed a memorable celebration of football as legendary former national and international players returned to the field during the National Veteran Football Tournament, held under the supervision of Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Vice President Hafiz Zakaullah. The prestigious event was organized with great enthusiasm and decorum, rekindling memories of Pakistan’s footballing golden era.
Veteran footballers from across the country showcased their skill, experience and passion, captivating fans and filling the ground with applause. The presence of these iconic players not only revived nostalgia but also inspired the younger generation, which was one of the core objectives of the tournament.
In the final, Rawalpindi Veterans emerged victorious after an entertaining contest, defeating Gujranwala Veterans by five goals to three to lift the title. The match was marked by competitive spirit, technical finesse and sportsmanship, reflecting the enduring quality of Pakistan’s seasoned footballers.
A special highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a distinguished award to Pakistan Air Force (PAF) football team coach Muhammad Arshad, in recognition of his outstanding coaching role in PAF’s triumph in the football event of the 35th National Games. Hafiz Sanaullah presented him with a commemorative shield, praising him as a dedicated and sincere coach who remains a valuable asset for Pakistan football.
The event concluded with a grand dinner hosted in honor of the participating teams and guests. Special gifts and souvenir shields were distributed among players, who warmly appreciated the initiative. They remarked that such tournaments strengthen unity among players and help revive a positive football culture in the country.
On this occasion, Hafiz Zakaullah, along with former football stars, reaffirmed their collective commitment to reviving football in Pakistan through sustained grassroots development. Participants emphasized the importance of activating football nurseries nationwide and keeping veteran football alive on a regular basis so that emerging talent can benefit from the guidance and experience of senior players.
Addressing the gathering, Malik Hidayatullah shed light on the current state of football in Pakistan and outlined a future roadmap. He stressed that the true path to football development passes through educational institutions. He called for football to be revived at school, tehsil and district levels, enabling children to learn modern techniques from an early age. Assuring his full support for grassroots initiatives, he added that school-level tournaments are essential for discovering the stars of tomorrow.
